Plan a School Trip
Your class needs to organise a two-day school trip. Choose a destination, work out the costs and create a realistic plan that fits within the budget.
Step 1
A task from your school
Your class needs to organise a two-day trip for 25 students. Each student has a budget of €80.
Your mission
Choose a suitable destination, work out all the main costs and decide whether the plan fits within the total budget of €2,000.
Step 2
Choose a destination
Compare the cost of transport and the travel time. Choose the city that you think offers the best option.

Step 3
Work out the budget and transport
The class has 25 students. Each student has a budget of €80. Use the data for your chosen destination to complete the calculations.
Multiply the number of students by the budget for one student.
Multiply the transport price for one student by 25.
Subtract the total cost of transport from the total budget.
Step 4
Work out the cost of the hotel and food
The trip lasts 2 days and includes one night in a hotel. The hotel offers a discount, and the students need to eat every day.
Hotel
Food
The whole plan for one student
Add the transport, the hotel after the discount and the food for both days.
Step 5
Does the plan fit within the budget?
Add up all the costs and add a 5% reserve for unexpected costs. Then decide whether the plan can work with the available budget of €2,000.
Selected destination
Add a 5% reserve
Change the plan
You can choose more than one change. The aim is a final cost, including the reserve, of no more than €2,000.
Comparison with the original plan
Subtract the new final cost from the original final cost.
Step 6
You are the organisers. Defend your plan.
Present your final plan
Review your chosen destination, the changes you made and the final budget. Then explain why your plan is right for the class.
Selected destination
How did you improve the original plan?
Your changes will appear here.
Defend your plan
Take 20–30 seconds to explain why you chose this destination, how you improved the budget and why you think it is a good plan for the class.
Justify your decisions
Congratulations!
You have created a realistic plan for a school trip and defended your decisions.
